20/20 Focus on JESUS

20/20 Focus on JESUS
Each day we need to keep our eyes focused on JESUS - 20/20! I am sorry that I did not continue this blog into the beginning of 2021. Nine months passed by before I was convicted to return to this blog and encourage us to look at JESUS, with clear vision, via a daily scripture reading. Yellow highlights are names/descriptions of JESUS that we'll add to the list on the right.

2020 for JESUS - Day 11: JESUS is THE FATHER'S ONE & ONLY SON... UNFAILING LOVE... TRUE LIGHT & more...

The first 2 weeks of 2020, our church family

has focused on John 1:1-14 -

The highlighted words below are

names/descriptions of JESUS,

to meditate on:

1 "In the beginning the WORD already existed.
    The WORD was with GOD,
    and the WORD was GOD.

2  HE existed in the beginning with GOD.

3  GOD created everything through HIM,

and nothing was created except through HIM. (CREATOR)

4  The WORD gave LIFE to everything that was created,[a]

and HIS LIFE brought LIGHT to everyone.

The LIGHT shines in the darkness,

and the darkness can never extinguish IT.
GOD sent a man, John the Baptist,
to tell about the LIGHT so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the LIGHT; he was simply a witness to tell about the LIGHT. The ONE WHO is the TRUE LIGHT, WHO gives LIGHT to everyone, was coming into the world.
10 HE came into the very world HE created, but the world didn’t recognize HIM. 11 HE came to HIS own people, and even they rejected HIM. 12 But to all who believed HIM and accepted HIM, HE gave the right to become children of GOD. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from GOD.
14 So the WORD became human and made HIS home among us. HE was full of UNFAILING LOVE and FAITHFULNESS.  And we have seen HIS GLORY, the glory of the FATHER'S ONE AND ONLY SON."

2020 for JESUS - Day 10: JESUS is FORGIVENESS...JOY...

In April of last year, my husband and I were in a wreck in Chicago.  Right before the wreck, a car passed us with the license plate, Psalm32.  I opened my Bible app to see what that chapter said.  Right afterwards, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a car behind us traveling very fast.  Not too much later, that same car spun around (while passing us on the right) - hitting us multiple times and "totaling" our car.  For many months the driver's insurance company has claimed that the wreck was not his fault.  Just this week, we received a letter from our insurance company stating that the other driver's insurance had finally paid in full, for damages done.

I am so grateful for forgiveness and that the LORD brought Psalm 32 to my attention.

I choose to forgive the driver of the vehicle that hit us (and his insurance company)!

2020 for JESUS - Day 9: JESUS is GOODNESS!

The Bible is a library of 66 books.  39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament.  The Old Testament has been referred to as "a shadow of things to come".  I love reading about Joseph, in the Old Testament, and how he continued to "do the right thing".  The more that happened, GOD would bless him.  He realized that he was blessed to be a blessing.  I found this chart that gives a little idea of the "shadow of things to come", in the life of goodness of the life of Joseph, before JESUS ever came to earth to show HIS GOODNESS through HIS life and death, as our SAVIOR.

2020 for JESUS - Day 8: JESUS is FAITHFUL LOVE...

As I consider that I have now lived the first 7 days of 2020, I remember that last year our church family spent a year with the theme of the "Faithful Love" of JESUS.  These verses are part of today's morning devotional for me.  I am so thankful that HIS MERCIES are new each morning!

JESUS is:
*Faithful love
*Faithfulness
*Faithful friend
*LORD
*Mercy
*Merciful

One week into 2020 and we already have referenced a minimum of 28 names/descriptions of JESUS!  What a blessing!

2020 for JESUS - Day 7: JESUS is FIRST and LAST... SERVANT OF ALL...

My friend and I are reading through
a daily devotional book, entitled
THE ILLUSTRATED WORDS
OF JESUS FOR WOMEN.

The cover has these words:
"366 days of calming coloring
and meaningful meditation
on the Words of JESUS."

Yesterday's words made me think
of JESUS in several ways.
JESUS is:
*Alpha and Omega
*Beginning and End
*First and Last
*Servant

2020 for JESUS - Day 6: JESUS, the OVERCOMER

I have shared that JESUS said HE had overcome the world.

What did JESUS overcome?

  • The temptation to make the wrong choice!
  • The temptation to disobey GOD, the FATHER!
  • The temptation to not do the right things!
When GOD created us, HE gave us choice.  GOOD or evil?!?!?

The first man and woman, Adam and Eve, were given choice between GOD's way and the enemy's way.  Who is this evil enemy?  He is the devil and he desperately wants us to disobey our CREATOR.  To disobey is called "sin".

Look at the name of GOD and add another "O" and you have GOOD.
  • GOD is GOOD!
Look at the name devil and 4 of the 5 letters spell "evil".
  • The devil is evil!

The devil has succeeded in convincing billions of people to sin, beginning with Adam and Eve.  HE did not succeed with JESUS, the man, when HE lived on the earth.  JESUS lived the perfect life and did not yield to the temptations put forth by the devil, as told in Matthew 4.

Read here today, about the temptations of JESUS, and get a teeny bit more insight into the "Overcomer" that HE was/is.  Notice that JESUS used verses from the Bible (Scripture) to respond to the devil's temptations.  The devil did, too; he twists and misuses scripture, including it in temptations.

Matthew 4:1-11 New Living Translation (NLT)

The devil tempts JESUS

Then JESUS was led by the SPIRIT into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights HE fasted and became very hungry.
During that time the devil came and said to HIM, “If you are the SON OF GOD, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But JESUS told him, “No! The Scriptures say,
‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of GOD.’”

Then the devil took HIM to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the SON OF GOD, jump off! For the Scriptures say,
‘HE will order HIS angels to protect YOU.
And they will hold YOU up with their hands
so YOU won’t even hurt YOUR foot on a stone.’”
JESUS responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the LORD your GOD.’”

Next the devil took HIM to the peak of a very high mountain and showed HIM all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to YOU,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”
10 “Get out of here, Satan,” JESUS told him. “For the Scriptures say,
‘You must worship the Lord your GOD
    and serve only HIM.’”

11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of JESUS.

2020 for JESUS: Day 5 - JESUS is LIFE and LIGHT!

As we step into this first Sunday of 2020, our church family will be talking about our theme for 2020:

JESUS:

LIFE and LIGHT!

As we begin the journey,
we will be meditating on these verses:
